La Galerie d’art Foreman est fière de présenter le projet spécial de commissariat hors-les-murs Projet Stanstead ou comment traverser la frontière, volet II, en collaboration avec la commissaire invitée Geneviève Chevalier. Cet événement qui constitue l’aboutissement de deux projets de résidence des artistes Raphaëlle de Groot (Montréal) et Althea Thauberger (Vancouver), prendra racine au cœur de la communauté de Stanstead, ville frontalière des Cantons de l’Est.
Samedi, le 28 juillet prochain, à la Bibliothèque et Salle d’opéra Haskell (1, rue Church, Stanstead), le projet, par le biais des œuvres des deux artistes, tentera d’explorer la réalité présente et passée de cette région traversée par une frontière — au sud, à Derby Line, Vermont et au nord, à Stanstead, Québec. Les recherches menées par les artistes dévoilent un réseau formé des personnes rencontrées et de leurs histoires. Qui a sillonné autrefois ce territoire et qui continue aujourd’hui de l’habiter ? Les éléments qui marquent le paysage aujourd’hui ne sont pas les mêmes que ceux d’hier et seront fort probablement appelés à changer. Cet événement fait suite à l’exposition portant le même titre et présentée en salle à l’été 2011, à la Galerie d’art Foreman de l’Université Bishop’s. Le thème de cette exposition collective abordait les liens entre frontières, paysages, coutumes et politiques.

The Foreman Art Gallery proudly presents a special off-site curatorial project titled Stanstead Project, or How to Cross the Border, part II, in collaboration with Guest Curator Geneviève Chevalier. This event takes root in the heart of Stanstead’s community and is the culmination of two artist residencies by Raphaëlle de Groot (Montréal) and Althea Thauberger (Vancouver).
The performances of these two artists on Saturday, July 28th 2012 at the Haskell Opera House (1 church street, Stanstead) will attempt to explore the notion of barriers between the north side of the US/Canada border in Stanstead, Quebec and the south side in Derby Line, Vermont. During the last few months, the research the artists conducted revealed a unique network, forged through their various encounters and the stories they uncovered. Who were the people who had once criss-crossed this territory? Who lives there now? Elements marking the countryside today are not the same as those encountered in times past, and will doubtless change again. This event follows an exhibition of the same name presented in the summer of 2011 at the Foreman Art Gallery. The group exhibition’s theme explored the connections between borders and landscapes, languages, lore and policymaking.

Dodolab
Projet special avec le collectif Dodolab
à l’ Université Bishop’s pendant l'année scolaire 2012-2013
DodoLab viens en residence a la Galerie d'art pendant l'annee scolaire pour explorer la culture de l'Université Bishop, et à sonder les perceptions des élèves, anciens élèves, professeurs et l'administration, ainsi que l'ensemble de la communauté de Lennoxville.
Ils utiliseront une variété de strategies créatives de recherche qui impliquent des interactions directes et indirectes avec le public qui cré des discussion et des conversations. Grâce à ce programme à multiples facettes, l'objectif est de parvenir à une compréhension plus profonde de la culture de l'université et son impact sur le campus et dans la ville et d'amener les communautés universitaires et locales ensembles pour partager les traditions anciennes et nouvelles.
Le travail du collectif Dodolab - de Lisa Hirmer et Andrew Hunter - se porte sur l'experimentation et la creativité dans des action communautaire. Leur travail est critique, ludique et interpelle un grand public, mettant l'accent sur la participation ouverte et l'échange.

Special artist-in-residence project with Dodolab
On going (At Bishop’s University during the 2012-2013 school year)
DodoLab has been commissioned to undertake a critical, yet playful, exploration of the culture of Bishop's University, to probe the perceptions of students, alumni, faculty and administration, as well as the wider community of Lennoxville.
They will use a variety of creative data collecting strategies that involve direct and indirect interactions with the public creating both opportunities for discussion and conversation as well as anonymous contributions. Through this multi-faceted program, the goal is to come to a deeper understanding of the culture of the university and its impact both on campus and in the town and to bring the university and local communities together to collaboratively experiment with tweaking old traditions and generating new ones that would better serve to create a richer bond between Town and Gown.
DodoLab is an evolving collaborative program lead by artists Lisa Hirmer and Andrew Hunter engaged with provocative, experimental and creative approaches to research and community actions. Their work is critically playful and highly public, emphasizing open participation and exchange.

Pour réserver une visite guidée ou un atelier, s'il vous plaît nous contacter à l'avance pour assurer que nous sommes en mesure de vous accueillir et d'apprendre de tous les coûts associés.
Notre équipe est heureuse d'offrir des visites guidées uniques pour chacune des expositions présentées à la Galerie d'Art Foreman. Chaque visite est créé spécifiquement pour répondre aux besoins et aux intérêts de votre groupe. Les visites sont offertes en français ou en anglais et dur entre 45min à 1 heure de temps. Afin de compléter et d'améliorer votre visite, des visites peuvent également être combinés avec un atelier dans notre studio d'art où vous pouvez créer votre propre œuvre d'art inspirée par l'exposition (s'il vous plaît nous contacter pour plus de détails et d'apprendre de tous les frais associés).
Chaque visite guidée est créé spécifiquement pour le groupe de visiteurs, que ce soit une classe de niveau universitaire à l'Université Bishop's, un groupe communautaire, les familles, ou d'une école primaire ou secondaire en visite. Il est donc important pour nous de savoir un peu plus sur vous et votre groupe avant votre arrivée afin de concevoir une visite guidée pour répondre à vos besoins et intérêts.
Informations : Disponible sur reservation de lundi a vendredi, de 9h00 à 17h00.
Une visite + atelier coûte 6 $ par enfant ou etudiant et dure 2h.

Guided tours and workshops offered for youth and adults
To book a guided tour or visit, please contact us in advance to ensure we are able to welcome you and to learn of all the associated costs.
Our team is pleased to offer unique guided tours for each of the exhibitions presented at the Foreman Art Gallery. Each tour is created specifically to meet the needs and interests of your group. Tours are offered in French or in English and are approximately between 45min to 1hour long. To complement and enhance your visit, tours can also be combined with a workshop in our studio space where you can create your own work of art inspired by the exhibition (please contact us for additional details and to learn of all associated fees).
Each guided tour is created specifically for the visiting group, be it an academic level class at Bishop's University, a community group, families, or a visiting primary or secondary school. It is thus important to us to know a little bit about you and your group before your arrival in order to design a guided tour to meet your needs and interests.
Information: Available by reservation from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm.
A guided tour + workshop costs $6 per child or student. Duration: 2 hours
